By itself, the central Luoshu Palace hosts the Star(s) that we’d otherwise not locate anywhere at the magnetic directions, which will make it easier on the surrounding Stars to find access to the central Star’s attributes and cast their influence, so that the central Star may tell us ‘Luoshu Trend’.

If we take the central Luoshu Palace as indicative for some sort of ‘compound’, then by itself, annual Star 8 would not immediately strike me as oil platform, but Star 8 is ‘open gate’. With monthly Star 9 Fire flying in (with or without Star 8 there), yes, oil platform would in fact become one of the first notions. I don’t know the ocean floor at the locale, but the association with a ‘mountainous’ one will be there.

Because we had the Eyjafjallajokull volcano eruption in Iceland and the oil platform debacle happen by ‘same’ Luoshu, let’s take a volcano outburst ‘parallel’ to the ‘outburst’ of oil in the sea. Rather than annual Star 8, we would perhaps take note of annual Star 4 Wood as either event had their ‘explosion’ preluded by much milder ‘outbursts’.

Star 4 Wood is associated with the Wind Trigram and it can be taken literally for that. What if it can also have this meaning figuratively extended to denote turbulence, waves decisively traveling from point A to point B, or here along same North-South Luoshu axis, if you will. If we locate annual Star 4 wood in the 1 Water Luoshu Palace for 2010, this may read as ‘turbulence in the sea’, the up sprouting oil. The oil to then upwardly reach the oil platform through an ‘open gate’, leading to explosion due to monthly Star 9 Fire. Star 1 Water can be associated with marine life, coastal areas, islands, ravines.

If Star 6 is a metal pipe, the combo 6-9 could indicate an oil pipe. The combo 6-7 could indicate a rupture (7) in a metal pipe, which combo we find at the 3 Wood Luoshu Palace, which would do something to supplies (provision, fueling) as suggested by the opposite monthly Star 2 at the 7 Metal Luoshu Palace.

As you say, volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen all the time.
But not all of them are equally significant or disrupting.

This Iceland eruption started in March (8-1), but only became prominent news in April (8-9)

We could make a number of different cases.
For example 8-9 appearing as Year-Month is of highest significance order, even more so if it appears in the center palace (= in the center of the news).
In other years we will also have 8-9 occur , but rather in the side palaces.

8-9 can also occur as Month-Day or even Month-Hour, Day-Hour and so on…
This will usually (but not always) be of lesser significance and cause regular day by day or hour by hour events that we consider “normal”.

What about the giant oil spill that started April 20?
In a way it is similar to a volcano, but here it is earth ejecting oil rather than fire. But since we use oil to burn it and for chemicals (9), the connection with Fire is not far away.
